On the Move – Ken

Southern Utah and Northern Arizona have been less than ideal. Skies have been grey and the wind has howled. Snow and cold weather have permeated the desert. Yet, we have been able to see some of the things we set out to.

Our trip through Monument Valley was filled with spectacular colour. The bright red spires contrasted with the bright and clear blue skies to give amazing views of the buttes and mesas. The drive from Page to the Valley took us through the high desert plains where the landscape glittered white. Flagstaff was also covered in about 4 inches bright white snow.

Yet the day after, the weather didn’t hold and our trip to the Petrified Forest was cold and windy. The Forest itself is great. Picture the Drumheller badlands with red rock formations and massive number of petrified trees.

One of the signs in the park had the best question; it must have come from a child and asked “Who cut the petrified trees into pieces?” Unfortunately, the scientific answer wasn’t as good as the question.

After a week, it is time to be done with this cold. Tomorrow we continue our move south.

Where is the warmth?
