With the weather getting nicer, we have been outside more.
The RV Park we are in abuts Tucson Mountain Park, a 20,000-acre park on the west side of Tucson.
The park was established in 1929 and is one of the largest natural resource areas owned and managed by a local government in the US and boasts over 62 miles of non-motorized, shared use trails.
To get into the Tucson Mountain Park, we just have to go out the back of the RV park. So far, we have only made one trip out into the Tucson Mountain Park, but plan to spend more time there over the next few days.
The east side of Tucson have similar natural areas, and just outside of the Saguaro National Park is Colossal Cave Mountain Park. The cave is a dry cave and has hourly guided tours. Today we were the only two people on our cave tour. That allowed us a chance to talk to the guide and understand the history of the cave, how it has been used and the efforts to preserve it.
Unfortunately, the cave was heavily damaged by the early settlers, and as a dry cave, the stalactites will probably never regrow. However, it was a fun adventure with a very entertaining guide.
